Federal authorities have arrested a person who was planning an attack on the Federal Reserve Bank building in New York.
Authorities said the suspect, Mohammad Ahsan Rezwanul Nafis, 21, drove a van, thought to be loaded with a bomb that weighed about 450 pounds, from Long Island to Manhattan and then parked it near the Federal Reserve Bank .
He allegedly tried to detonate explosives at a phone celuluar, but was arrested by the FBI and New York police in a joint action.
The defendant now faces charges that it is trying to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to Al-Qaeda, officials said.
Legal representatives of the police forces stated that their action was a lightning operation monitored by the FBI and New York Police ensuring that civilians were not at any time in danger.
Federal Reserve Bank of New York is the largest of the 12 regional banks federal system.
