U.S. Protestants are not majority

For the first time in history since the founding of the United States of America, Protestant believers are not the majority.

According to a study conducted by a specialized institute, only 48% of adults classify themselves as Protestant, 53% to the level of five years ago.

This decline started before several decades associated with the number of those Americans who qualify themselves as atheist or infidel, about 20% of the total population.

Protestants who for years have been identified as the main group of Republican supporters, experts predict that this decline in their numbers bring political consequences over the coming decades.

Other major religious groups in the U.S. are Evangelicals and Catholics.
