Syria Attacked intelligence agency

Syria rebels reportedly carried out a bomb attack during the night on an intelligence building in a suburb of the capital Damascus.

Al Nusrat Front, a militant jihadist group, said the suicide attackers blew up outside the headquarters of Air Force Intelligence in Harasta.

While activists and residents reported that they heard large explosions, followed by clashes with heavy machine guns and mortars.

Air Force Intelligence is regarded as an elite agency of Syrian intelligence system.

Military, in the past it has played a key role in operations against Islamist opposition groups, as well as covert operations abroad, gaining the reputation of brutality.

Agency currently headed by Major General Jamil Hassan, a member of the tiny Alawite sect of President Bashar al Assad.

In a statement issued by Al Nusrat Front Air Force Intelligence reportedly being attacked because, "is one of the cruelest security divisions and the strength of repression, whose ramifications knows only God."

The group, which has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks since January, specified that a vehicle packed with 9 tons of explosives was driven to the agency's headquarters in Harasta and was blown up.
