Eight people were arrested in Houston, Texas on charges of being exported high-tech components for the account of the Russian security bodies, reports BBC. Alexander Fishenko, who owns the company in Texas and in Moscow, was accused of espionage activities in the U.S. without being previously registered. Charges is set for 11 people, three of whom are in Russia.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said he had received a message from U.S. officials, saying that the charges are not criminal nature. "This is not for any activity relating to the collection of information," he said. Fishenko, 46, is a naturalized American and owns a company named "Arc Electronics Inc.". He is also charged with money laundering. The U.S. maintains fierce control the export of microelectronics, which can be used to create or radar surveillance systems, Unmanned weapons systems and detonators.
